It is especially prescribed during respiratory acidosis associated with the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the body, metabolic acidosis associated with the accumulation of metabolic byproducts, and renal acidosis resulting from impaired filtration of hydrogen ions by the kidneys.

Dosage and Usage:

Practical dosage varies depending on the severity of acidosis, the overall CO2 level, blood pH, and clinical condition. Typically, a dosage of approximately 2-5 mEq/kg (or 2-5 ml/kg) of body weight is administered over a span of 4-8 hours. If the CO2 level is unknown, a rough estimation of 2 ml/kg of body weight can be administered. The administration should be slow and via intravenous route.
